I am looking for a Stephen Hester. His Children first show up all living nearby each other in Marion County Tennessee in the 1860 Census, with the two youngest Children and the only daughter living in the home of a Phibe or Phoebe Hester (Listed as Hauter or Hunter in the 1860 Census)(b aprox 1808). By 1880 they are in Chatooga County GA. Shortly thereafter they are in Dekalb and Marshall Co. AL. The Children's names are McCaga or Micejoh Hester b 1828, William Milton. b 1833, Martha Ann b 1836, James Washington. b 1837, Francis Marion b 1845, and Andrew Jackson b 1846. Andrew Jackson Hester is my G-Grandfather. Stephen, their father, would have been born around 1790-1805 and would have died by mid to late 1850's We know their mother was a Cherokee Indian, but tradition has it her name was Mary Jane Johns and that she may have come from South Carolina. She may have been Stephen's mistress which may account as to why He is never listed with the family. Phebe may have been a sister or sister inlaw of Stephen's or It may have been a Census taker's transliteration of an Indian name.
Thanks for your help!
